Main & Tail Rotor Blades

The main and tail rotor of a helicopter ensures stable and controlled flight.

The main rotor provides lift generation by varying the rotor blade angle of attack as they move through the air. In addition to lift, the main rotor provides forward, backward, left, and right propulsion by tilting the rotor disc in the desired direction

Changes in the angle of attack of individual rotor blades or the collective pitch of all blades help control the helicopter’s pitch and altitude.

The tail rotor provides Yaw control as the main rotor generates torque as it spins, trying to rotate the entire helicopter in the opposite direction. The tail rotor counteracts this torque and helps maintain the helicopter’s heading or yaw stability.

Note that certain helicopter may use alternative systems, such as NOTAR (NO TAil Rotor) or Fenestron, to achieve yaw control without a traditional tail rotor.
